Choosing a Navitas or Alltrax AC motor

The motors on this page are Navitas and Alltrax AC motors for carts already using the matching controller family, plus the complete-kit route for a stock DC cart. Three facts pick the right one, and the badge on the front of the cart is not one of them:

  • The spline. Count the teeth where the motor meets the rear axle. Club Car carts use the 10-tooth motors; E-Z-GO, Yamaha and STAR EV carts use the 19-tooth motors.
  • The brake. Look at the far end of the motor for a brake unit with its own wires. The Yamaha Drive2 (4kW, 19-tooth) and the ICON and Advanced EV (5kW, 10-tooth) each have their own brake motor.
  • The rating. 4kW, 5kW or 7.5kW. On a Navitas or Alltrax AC1 cart it is on the motor label or in the kit name. The 7.5kW motors are the ones from the TAC3 850A kits.

Match all three to the motor on the cart. The controller and cables stay, and the controller amp calculator helps if you are weighing a step up in rating.

Dead stock DC motor?

We do not sell DC motors. If the stock DC motor on an E-Z-GO, Club Car or Yamaha has failed, the replacement is the DC to AC kit for your controller label in conversion kits, which brings a new AC motor and the controller to run it in one job.

Before you order

Most motors that get blamed are fine. A flat pack, a worn solenoid, a speed sensor or a stripped spline causes many carts that will not pull. The motor test takes a few minutes with a meter. Motors FAQ

Which AC motor fits my cart?

Match the spline count, the brake and the rating to the motor on the cart. Club Car uses 10-tooth motors, and E-Z-GO, Yamaha and STAR EV use 19-tooth motors. Yamaha Drive2, ICON and Advanced EV carts need the model with a parking brake.

Can I put a Navitas AC motor on my stock DC controller?

No. An AC motor needs an AC controller to run it. For a cart with a stock DC system, the DC to AC conversion kit for your controller label brings the motor and the controller together.

Do you sell DC golf cart motors?

Not at the moment. When a stock DC motor dies, the kit route replaces it with a new AC motor and controller, which also gives the cart better hill climbing and regenerative braking.

4kW, 5kW or 7.5kW: which should I choose?

On a Navitas or Alltrax AC1 cart, buy the rating and controller family that are on it now, because the controller and cables were set up for that system. If you are converting, the conversion kit guide sizes the motor to the controller and the job.
