Brand Curtis SKU 76-1205-101

Overview

The Curtis 1205-101 is a new 24 to 36V, 400A controller for series wound motors. It belongs to the Curtis 1204 and 1205 family, and it takes the standard 0-5k two wire throttle input, the kind a Curtis pot box provides.

We list it by exact label match. It replaces a controller whose label reads Curtis 1205-101. Curtis builds the 1205 in several voltage and current versions, so the part number on your label is the fitment.

It is a simple, sealed controller: four bus bars for the battery and motor cables and three push-on terminals for the key switch and the two throttle wires. There is nothing to program.

Does not fit

  • Carts whose controller label reads something other than Curtis 1205-101
  • Carts running a 48V pack, because this is a 24 to 36V controller
  • Separately excited (regen) motors, which take a SepEx controller
  • Vehicles with an ITS throttle sensor
  • AC drive carts
  • Gas carts

How to confirm it fits

  1. Read the label on your existing controller. This part replaces a Curtis 1205-101.

  2. Check the pack voltage. This controller is for 24V and 36V packs.

  3. Check the throttle: two wires from a 0-5k pot box.

  4. Send us a photo of the label if it is hard to read and we will match it for you.

Requirements and install notes

  1. Disconnect the battery pack and lift the drive wheels off the ground before you touch any terminal.

  2. Label the four heavy cables (B+, B-, M- and A2) before you take them off the old controller, so every one goes back on the same bus bar.

  3. Use two wrenches on each bus bar bolt, one on the bolt and one on the nut. Curtis warns that tightening with a single wrench can strain the internal connections and crack the seals around the bus bars.

  4. Keep the pre-charge resistor across the solenoid. It charges the controller's capacitors gently and saves the solenoid contacts. With a can-type solenoid Curtis calls the resistor mandatory.

  5. A coil suppression diode belongs on the solenoid coil. If yours is missing or damaged, replace it while the controller is out.

  6. Check the pot box with an ohmmeter before you connect it: about 0 ohms with the pedal up, rising smoothly to about 5k with the pedal down.

  7. Fasten the controller with four screws to a clean, flat metal surface. The surface is part of the heat sinking, so bare metal matters.

  8. Any orientation is allowed. Curtis asks for a spot that stays as clean and dry as possible, with a cover if that is not possible.

FAQ

Which throttle does it take?

A 0-5k two wire pot box. Curtis lists its own PB-6 pot box for the 1204 and 1205, and says any pot box with a nominal 0-5k output works.

Can I use it in place of a different 1205 part number?

We list it only as a replacement for a controller labelled 1205-101. Other 1205 models are built for other voltages and currents. Send us your label and we will tell you what matches.

Does it need programming?

No. The 1205-101 has no programmer port. It works from the key switch input and the two throttle wires.

Will it run on a 48V pack?

No. The 1205-101 is a 24 to 36V controller. The 36 to 48V versions of the 1205 carry different part numbers.

Warranty

This part is new and covered by our returns and refunds policy. We handle any claim for a defective part directly with you. A controller damaged by a shorted motor, a failed solenoid or incorrect wiring is not covered, which is why the checks above come first.
