Overview

The Albright SW202 is a forward and reverse contactor pair: two single pole double throw contactors on one bracket, supplied with the copper links that reverse a series-wound motor. It does the job of a separate forward solenoid and reverse solenoid in one assembly.

The SW202-41 has 48V continuous duty coils, and its contacts are rated up to 96V DC with magnetic blowouts fitted as standard. That combination is what a 72V build with a 48V control circuit needs: the coils run from the 48V side, the contacts switch the 72V pack.

Albright rates the contacts 250A continuous and 450A at 30% duty, with a built-in failsafe: if both coils are energized at once, the contacts go open circuit instead of shorting the motor.

Compatibility

Fits

  • Universal by coil voltage Series-motor carts with separate forward and reverse contactors
    Voltage
    48V to 72V
    Years
    Any

48V coil fed from a 48V control circuit; 6 mm spade coil terminals

Does not fit

  • Control circuits that are not 48V (use the 72/80V coil Albright SW202-59 for a 72V or 80V circuit)
  • SepEx and AC drive carts, whose controllers reverse the motor electronically and use no reversing contactors
  • Installs that cannot keep battery positive on the + marked studs, because the blowout magnets are polarity sensitive

Not sure which one you have? Send us a photo of your old solenoid and its label and we will match it. support@golfcartlab.com

How to confirm it fits

  1. Check the voltage of the circuit that feeds your forward and reverse coils: this is the 48V coil version.

  2. Check the motor: the SW202 reverses a series-wound motor through its field. SepEx and AC carts do not use it.

  3. Make sure your battery cable lugs fit M10 studs.

  4. Send us a photo of your current forward and reverse solenoids and their wiring, and we will map the SW202 connections for you.

What's in the box

Requirements and install notes

  1. Disconnect the battery pack before you start. Photograph and label the wiring on your old forward and reverse solenoids.

  2. The SW202 is wired as a pair. Follow the connection diagram in the brochure below: the motor field connects across the two contactors, and the supplied links tie them together.

  3. Observe polarity: the + markings on the top covers must face battery positive, because the blowout magnets push the arc one way only.

  4. Feed each coil from your forward and reverse signals. The coils are 48V continuous duty and use 6 mm spade terminals, so crimp insulated female spade connectors onto the coil wires.

  5. Tighten the M10 main stud nuts to 13.4 to 14.6 Nm. If you mount it vertically, the main studs must point up.

  6. The normally closed contacts are not designed to make or break current. Keep the switching on the normally open side, as the diagram shows.

FAQ

Can I use the SW202-41 on a 72V cart?

Yes, if the coils are fed from a 48V control circuit. The contacts are rated up to 96V DC with magnetic blowouts, so they can switch a 72V pack. The coils themselves are 48V continuous duty and need 48V.

Does it replace my separate forward and reverse solenoids?

Yes. The SW202 is a matched pair of changeover contactors with the reversing links supplied, so one assembly does the work of the two solenoids. The wiring is different from two separate 4-terminal solenoids, so follow the connection diagram.

What happens if both coils are energized at once?

Albright builds in a failsafe: with both coils energized, the contact arrangement is open circuit, so the motor is not shorted.

Is it continuous duty?

Yes. The label reads 48V CO, Albright's mark for a continuously rated coil. The contacts are rated 250A continuous.

Warranty

This part is new and covered by our returns and refunds policy. We handle any claim for a defective part directly with you. Albright does not publish a separate warranty term for this part. Damage from wrong coil voltage, reversed polarity or over-tightened terminals is not covered.
