Overview
This is the 36V main solenoid for electric golf carts: the heavy switch that connects your battery pack to the controller and motor when you press the pedal. When it wears out you get a click with no movement, a cart that cuts out, or a hot solenoid and resistor.
The White Rodgers 586-117111 is the sealed, 4-terminal, continuous duty version with silver alloy contacts rated 200A continuous and 600A inrush. It is the part golf cart catalogs cross to Club Car 1016072, E-Z-GO 20468-G1 and Yamaha JF3-H1950-00, so on most 36V electric carts it bolts into the same place as the original.
If you have fitted a higher-amp controller, this is still a sensible replacement: Navitas recommends a 200A or bigger solenoid when you push a cart harder, and this one is rated 200A continuous.

How to confirm it fits
Check the pack voltage: this is the 36V part.
Count the terminals on your old solenoid. Four terminals (two large, two small) means this is the right style.
Match the label or OEM number: White Rodgers 586-117111, Club Car 1016072, E-Z-GO 20468-G1 or Yamaha JF3-H1950-00.
Still unsure? Send us a photo of the old solenoid and its label.

Requirements and install notes
Disconnect the battery pack before you touch the solenoid. Photograph the wiring first so every cable goes back on the same stud.
The two large studs carry pack current. The two small #10-32 posts are the coil. Move the cables and small wires across one at a time.
Put the pre-charge resistor back across the large studs and the diode back across the small posts, with the striped end of the diode on the positive coil wire, if your cart had them. Navitas controller installs are different: Navitas says to remove and discard both.
Tighten the large studs to no more than 60 in-lb and the coil posts to 12 to 18 in-lb. Over-tightening cracks the phenolic cap.
Mount it vertically with the coil terminals up, as White Rodgers recommends.
On a lithium conversion, measure the voltage at the small posts with the pedal pressed. White Rodgers rates this coil to 110% of 36V (39.6V), so a pack that sits higher than that needs a coil rated for it. Send us the reading and we will match one.
FAQ
Will this fit my 36V Club Car DS?
Yes. Golf cart parts catalogs list the White Rodgers 586-117111 as the replacement for Club Car 1016072, the 36V 4-terminal solenoid on DS electric carts from 1988 on. It uses the same two-stud, two-post layout.
Can I use this 36V solenoid on a 48V cart?
No. The coil is wound for 36V and White Rodgers rates it to 110% of that. On 48V the coil overheats. Use the 48V White Rodgers 586-120111 instead.
Is 200A enough for an upgraded controller?
For most builds, yes. Navitas recommends a 200A or bigger solenoid when a cart works harder, and this one is rated 200A continuous with 600A inrush. For a high-amp controller driven hard on hills or with big tires, the Albright SW180B heavy-duty contactor gives more headroom at high duty.
Do I need a resistor and diode with it?
Most stock Curtis-controlled carts use a pre-charge resistor across the large studs and a diode across the small posts, so move yours over. Navitas controllers precharge internally, and their manual says to remove both.
Warranty
This part is new and covered by our returns and refunds policy. We handle any claim for a defective part directly with you. White Rodgers does not publish a separate warranty term for this part. Damage from wrong coil voltage, reversed polarity or over-tightened terminals is not covered.
